Shop log - March

Monday, 1 April 2019

I've wrestled with the 2 ways I can spin this month's shop log.

Option A: Paint this month as a deep, metaphysical awakening of my consumption habits
Option B: Brutal honesty in spite of the shame and embarrassment I feel.

Yes! I'm embarrassed and have been feeling that way since I compiled my February log
  • I can't believe I bought that many items.
  • I can't believe I spent that much.
  • I can't believe I'm repeating old shopping mistakes and relearning the old wardrobe rules that have worked well for me for years

My biggest, costliest shopping mistakes happen when I'm not truthful to myself. Like ignoring the fact that I hate being physically uncomfortable in clothes and wool ALWAYS itches me. ALWAYS. 5 years ago, I learned that I could not wear wool sweaters; no matter the type or quality. In 2019 I relearned that lesson. The cost? A full bag of 15+ sweaters donated this month - an eclectic collection of too small, too faded and too woolly. Some of those sweaters I've owned for over 5 years and some just under 2 months. :(

On a more positive note, I have narrowed down which items give me the most value when purchased from thrift stores: blazers and pants. I've worn that Tahari blazer jacket just about every other day at work. I absolutely love the confidence and swagger a well-made blazer jacket gives me. I can't wait to find more of those.

So here's my shop log for March in its shameful, truthful glory.
